A new microtube device could improve the reliability and effectiveness of low-volume blood sample collection.
The BD Microtainer MAP Microtube for Automated Process, launched by BD Diagnostics, facilitates the collection and testing of capillary blood from patients whose veins are difficult to access, such as elderly, paediatric and oncology patients.
The new microtube is the first such device to accommodate standard, full-size patient identification labels, thus reducing the risk of labelling errors as well as the time lost through sample transfer and relabelling.
Blood sample collection is often a critical step in the diagnostic process from the point of view of safety, patient comfort and workflow efficiency. The BD Microtainer MAP tube enables reliable automated processing with 81% less blood than venous systems. It represents a step forward for patients from whom it is difficult to obtain a venous blood sample.
“Clinical laboratories are focused on preventing specimen identification errors that can lead to misdiagnosis of patients. We at BD are pleased to introduce the BD Microtainer MAP product to address this healthcare issue,” said Tom Polen, President, BD Diagnostics – Preanalytical Systems. “BD is committed to continuing our history of innovation in helping improve patient safety and healthcare worker safety, while enhancing workflow efficiency.”
BD Diagnostics is a segment of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company).
