The first comprehensive online shop for homecare products has been launched, helping occupational therapists and care professionals to advise elderly and disabled people on products to assist independent living at home.
Homecare from The Consortium is a one-stop shop for assistive technologies, including many products new to the UK.
The site makes hundreds of products readily available, drawing on the product innovation of many countries and offering a wider range than is possible in a mobility shop, with greater ease of access to the sales point.
The products on Homecare have icons for different types of disability or illness, including sensory impairment, memory loss, mobility issues, tremors, one-handedness and sleep difficulties.
GP and health columnist Dr Ellie Cannon said: “There are so many good products available to take the strain out of the challenges of living at home that it is marvellous for people to be able to find them easily. The psychological boost that it can give an elderly person or their carer when a difficulty is made easy, the ability to do something independently is restored, or a pastime is once again an option, cannot be underestimated.”
The Homecare site (www.homecare-products.co.uk) is designed for ease of access and navigation, and includes a text enlargement facility.
Based in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, The Consortium is a leading independent supplier of assistive technologies for care homes in the UK. Its goods are procured from sustainable sources and delivered by electric vehicles.
The Consortium is a member of the UN Global Compact, and won a Wiltshire Business Award in the Environmental category in 2009.
